For this cruise, you’ll join the Amazon Dream on the fifth day of the program in Alter do Chão.
You’ll be greeted at the airport of Santarem and your transfer to the boat is included. The
cruise ends the last day of the program.
Flight Connections : Santarem has an airport served by numerous Brazilian companies (Tam, Gol, Ricoh, Total) with connections from Belem and Manaus. Formalities : Valid passport for citizens from the EEC and the USA. Currency : The Real. All large banks have ATM distributors for obtaining money by bank card. Language : The language spoken in Brazil is Portuguese. Time : Time difference from France, 5 hours behind in winter and 6 hours in summer. Telephone : There are phone booths accepting cards for telephoning outside of Brazil. On board the Amazon Dream, telephone connections are assured by satellite. Climate : dIn the region of Santarem, the average temperature is 26° C/ 79 ° F. There is often a pleasant breeze during the day. Nights on the boat can be cool, and air conditioning is often not necessary. From July to January, it rarely rains, it’s the season for discovering the white, sandy beaches. From February to June, it rains more often, above all at night, and the resulting water level permits sailing farther up the rivers and their tributaries into the heart of the forest. Vaccinations : It is strongly recommended to be vaccinated against yellow fever : the vaccination is for 10 years. This vaccination is mandatory to come into Cayenne, in French Guyana. There is little malaria in this region of Amazonia. A preventive treatment is nonetheless recommended.
