FAUNA AND FLORA
OF THE AMAZON :
THE GREATEST SHOW THAT NATURE HAS TO OFFER...

A green sanctuary, immense library of nature, the Amazonian forest harbors
50 000 plants,
10 000 species of insects,
3 000 species of fish,
1 600 species of rare birds,
More than 500 mammals and
one third of the planet’s primates...

Impossible, of course, to admire all of these: but don’t hold this against us ! In the Amazon, it’s often the animals who observe man and not the contrary...
The boat offers a particularly privileged means of exploration, and early morning outings to listen to the forest in the company of our guides turn up marvelous surprises : tortoises, iguanas, eagles and falcons, monkeys, paresseux, anteaters, tapirs and capivaras await you. And perhaps a feline at sundown. The ballet of birds : flamboyant hummingbirds, kingfishers, egrets, and toucans with their melancholy cries...
For the curious, there are insects of all descriptions. And for thrill-seekers, there are snakes of fascinating colors, and yes, ticklish mygale spiders to approach.

As for the alligator-like caimans, you’ll get a glimpse of their red eyes in the light of your flashlights during nocturnal outings all the while listening to the rhythmic croaking of toads...
You’ll also discover some of the 2,500 varieties of trees, certain of which grow to 60 meters high : exotic woods - ipe, itauba - and the hevea whose rubber,«soft gold», constituted the short-lived fortune of the Manaus planters at the beginning of the 20th century. There are castanheiras, which produce the famous Para nut, and countless palm trees.
You’ll admire rare flowers, and taste wild fruits, such as the huge and delicious jaca. And you’ll learn to recognize certain medicinal plants, inestimable resources of the Amazonian forest so sought after today.

HAVING DONE WITH A FEW LEGENDS...
On the Tapajos, there are very few mosquitoes: the acidity of the water prevents the reproduction of the larva. des larves. On the Amazon, they appear only at sunrise and sundown : : on board, they are not a nuisance. As for piranhas, horror films have portrayed them as fearsome creatures. In reality, most of them are fruit-eaters and the frightening images are often filmed at the time when the waters of inaccessible rivers are at their lowest and when food is rare: and we have no intention of having you splash around with them. You can, nonetheless, fish a few of them, if only to vanquish the myth...
